Hello all, first of all, excuse me my bad English please. I have just noticed (a few days ago), that in my \users\appdata\local, there are a couple dozen empty folders with a {GUID} name. They're dated to random dates, no pattern I could discover. But they seem to be created when the computer boots up, so it could be something to do with startup services. I deleted these and nothing happened. Then I discovered, there are similar folders in \user\appdata\local\temp too, empty as well. They are never the same as the ones in \local. After deleting them and rebooting, new ones may either pop up or not. I see no pattern here. I've seen this on Windows 7 and Vista too. I'm thinking these are some leftover temp folders from Windows Update. No idea why some go to \temp and why others not. They do seem to pop up when an update is found (and installed). I deleted everything and checked for updates, and there's no update now, and there's no new folder popping up. I'll wait until there's another update and see if it will result in a new empty folder. But I'd be really glad if someone could tell me where these come from. Thanks in advance.

Hi bsh_ If the randon GUID folders are appearing at startup, you can try monitoring it using Process Monitor, by enabling boot logging. To configure Boot Logging, select "Enable Boot Logging" from the Options Menu. Restart Windows and start Process Monitor again. Save the events to a PML log file when prompted. It could be created by some updates. There are also some folders in my machine. Don't worry about them.
